Competition

This year marks 120 years since Montague Rhodes James released the first eight of his Ghost Stories of an Antiquary. In celebration, Old Sovereign Publishing have chosen this Halloween to launch a competition to find the most creative interpretations of his work.

Artists are invited to submit illustrations for the eight original, spine-tingling stories:

Canon Alberic's Scrap-Book
Lost Hearts
The Mezzotint
The Ash-tree
Number 13
Count Magnus
‘Oh, Whistle, and I'll Come to You, My Lad’
The Treasure of Abbot Thomas

Artists are allowed one submission per story but are welcome to submit to as many or as few of the stories as they choose.

The competition will be open until midnight on the Spring equinox on the 20th March 2025. Competition winners will receive a reward of $120 and their work published in an Old Sovereign Publishing leather bound M.R James anthology, to be released in time for Halloween 2025.

Submissions should be sent to gabriel.gigliotti@oldsovereignpublishing.com - submissions should be as TIF’s of 300DPI or more.

Submissions on acceptance grant to Old Sovereign Publishing a non-exclusive right to publish the submitted material in perpetuity.
